Preface: I had been using an Outlook email, and then yesterday I saw the email of Viki,
[email protected]
, and thought, "That's so cool!" So, under Viki's guidance, I set up my own domain email[email protected]
. = = Short and elegant! It's much shorter than my Outlook email...
This solution is based on the Tencent Enterprise Email provided by WeChat Work, which allows direct email sending and receiving, and can be logged into third-party email software!
I don't have many requirements for email software; I just need to receive verification codes in a timely manner and occasionally send an email, QAQ. It has been quite good to use.
Here is a quick start guide:#
Preparation:#
- Any suffix domain
- DNS resolution service provider (I switched to Cloudflare, the default is also fine)
- Mobile WeChat Work APP (because backend login requires scanning a QR code with the phone = =)
Purchase a domain:#
Just find a domestic or foreign service provider to purchase a domain = =
✅ Domain + 1
Register WeChat Work - Create a new enterprise#
When creating a new enterprise, make sure to select "Enterprise" and not the "Personal Create Team" option below.
Then the newly created enterprise can be found in the "Email" section, where you can see content like the image below, and click to activate it for free.
After that, you will be asked to enter the domain for binding, and we can input the registered domain.
Next, we will be asked to modify the DNS resolution.
✅ Enterprise + 1
Modify DNS resolution:#
Here I switched the domain's DNS resolution to Cloudflare,
After adding the record, it looks like this:
After adding, wait a moment and confirm the configuration in WeChat Work.
Add domain email#
Enter the WeChat Work backend, and in "Collaboration - Email," you can manage emails.
In the image below, both "Member Email" and "Public Email" can have emails added.
We can just set a prefix to add it.
✅ Email + 1
Log in to the domain email#
To log in to the email, go to:
Tencent Enterprise Email: https://exmail.qq.com/login/zh_CN
After scanning the QR code with the mobile APP to log in, you can see the registered domain email!
Log in to third-party email clients#
To receive timely notifications of emails, we need to use an email client for notifications = =.
If you don't need a third-party client and are a QQ user who often keeps the computer on, you can set up email forwarding in Tencent Enterprise Email to forward to QQ email.
Here we still log in to Tencent Enterprise Email, and in the settings page of the email, find the "Email Binding" section shown in the image.
Generate a client-specific password and remember it.
Then follow the official help to operate:
https://open.work.weixin.qq.com/help2/pc/19886?person_id=1
The official description is quite detailed, so I won't elaborate.
You can log in via POP/IMAP protocol (you don't need to know what it is, as long as the third party supports login 👀).
Below is an excerpt from the WeChat Work Help Center (you can take a look if you're interested):
- What is IMAP?
IMAP, or Internet Message Access Protocol, allows you to retrieve email information and download emails from the mail server. IMAP is similar to POP, both being email retrieval protocols.
What is the difference between IMAP and POP?
POP allows email clients to download emails from the server, but actions you take in the email client (such as moving emails, marking as read, deleting emails, etc.) do not reflect back to the server. For example, if you receive 3 emails from Tencent Enterprise Email through your email client and move them to another folder, those moves will not be reflected on the server, meaning those emails on the Tencent Enterprise Email server are not moved simultaneously.
However, IMAP is different; actions taken in the email client will be reflected back to the server. Actions you take on emails (such as moving emails, marking as read, deleting emails, etc.) will also have corresponding actions on the server's emails. In other words, IMAP is "two-way."
Additionally, IMAP can download only the email subject, and will only download the full content of the email when you actually need it.
I logged in to the built-in Mail client on Mac using IMAP and followed the official help to log in:
POP3/SMTP protocol
Receiving mail server: pop.exmail.qq.com, using SSL, port 995
Sending mail server: smtp.exmail.qq.com, using SSL, port 465
IMAP protocol
Receiving mail server: imap.exmail.qq.com, using SSL, port 993
Sending mail server: smtp.exmail.qq.com, using SSL, port 465
Email address: Full email address of the enterprise email
Password: Enterprise email password; if the email has enabled secure login, you need to obtain the client authorization code from [Web login -> Settings -> Email Binding].
Also, in [Web settings -> Sending and receiving settings], you need to enable the client service protocol.
As shown in the image, the configuration is complete and logged into the third-party client = =.
✅ Super cool domain email + 1
Email forwarding (optional)#
The member email created by WeChat Work can be set up for email forwarding.
You can forward emails received in the domain email to a backup email or to an all-in-one email you want.
This can be set up in Tencent Enterprise Email.
